Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and visit this picturesque ocean-side town with its famous blowhole, spectacular coastal walkway, heritage sites, parks, beautiful beaches and more. Best of all there are no crowds here! You begin with a spectacular train ride from Sydney that takes you south through Royal National Park and along the beautiful rollling hills of the eastern coast of Australia passing through many small coastal towns along the way. You will also see many beautiful photos of the Kiama area which will make you want to go there all the more. The first thing to do when you arrive is to exit the station to your right and walk along Terralong Street toward the ocean. Go right at Terralong and follow it to Blowhole Point Road. Follow that out to the Kiama Visitors Centre where you can get a map of the area and ask questions to plan your day. The visitor centre is open daily from 9am-5pm 10am-4pm on Sundays during the Winter Adjacent to the Visitors Centre you can see the famous Kiama Blowhole, the Kiama lighthouse and, if travelling on Friday through Monday you can visit the Pilots Cottage Museum – a regional and maritime museum in a restored cottage.
The return trip takes around 45 minutes. It is a leisurely ride from Thirlmere to Buxton station. There is no hustle and bustle of a modern railway station here, nor overcrowded carriages with standing room only.
